Domingo Díaz Docampo presents his latest documentary entitled ‘O Desafío do Sil’ (1), a historical tour on the construction of dams by the company Saltos del Sil (1945-1965) that forever changed the silhouette of Valdeorras and also the way of life of its neighbours.
This documentary contains unpublished images of the film ‘Lires’ of great historical value for our village.
‘Lires’, by Francisco De la Calle, was filmed by the Agrarian Extension Service in the 1960s and received awards in several international competitions. This 20-minute film shows the village of Lires vertebrated by a unpaved road, without water supply or an electricity network in many places. The unity of the neighbours made it possible to start up several works that substantially improved the quality of life of the villagers, the first of which was the water supply system to provide all houses with running water.
Both documentaries, ‘El Desafío del Sil’ and ‘Lires’, highlight the social and economic change that these works brought about in rural areas.
